MICO Dorcy.
Creative technologist in Kigali. Code, design and video, under a name I picked before I knew what it would mean.
Je crée, donc je suis.
I create, therefore I am
It started with a username
dorcy3d was a handle I picked years ago. There was no plan behind it. My real name is MICO Dorcy, but the handle stuck harder than the one on my ID, and at some point I stopped correcting people.
I didn't set out to do three things. It happened one at a time, mostly because something needed doing and nobody else was going to do it.
Dev came first
It started with websites. Then websites stopped being enough. I built a full canteen management system — logins, a database, three kinds of users who all needed to see different things. That project taught me what a website never could: software isn't pages, it's decisions. Every one you get wrong shows up three weeks later.
Design snuck in sideways
I made a poster for one event because somebody asked. Then there was another event. Then another. I never chose design. I just kept saying yes until it was a skill.
Video was the one I chose
Video started smallest. Clips of my own, for fun, nothing serious. Then I noticed I was staying up to finish them and I wasn't tired.
Figuring out what you love doesn't need a big moment. Just pay attention to what you keep going back to when nobody's asking.
Nothing happened fast
Stylesheets that broke at 2am for no reason I could find. Posters redone five times because the type was fighting itself. Edits recut four times before I could say what was wrong with the pacing.
Nobody warns you about the boring part. The stretch where you're just bad at something for a while, and the only way out is straight through it.
On the word "full-stack"
People reach for a label when they hear I do all three. I'd rather borrow one from my own field. Full-stack means working the whole thing — front end, back end, the parts users see and the parts they never will.
Code is one layer. Design is another. Video is a third. None of them is the real skill with the others bolted on.
What I have now isn't luck. It's a few years of refusing to leave things unfinished, in three directions at once. The 3D turned out to mean more than I meant by it. I'll take it.
